The IRS's Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) System for filing 1099s is offline for end-of-year updates until January 6, 2026. You can still submit your forms. We will e-file as soon as the FIRE system is available. We regret any inconvenience. Similarly, the IRS's Affordable Care Act (ACA) Information Returns (AIR) system for filing 1095 forms is unavailable until January 9, 2026.
The IRS has announced the retirement of the Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) System in Tax Year 2026/Filng Season 2027. The Information Returns Intake System (IRIS) will be the only intake system for information returns for filing season 2027.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) require filers of 10 or more information returns in a calendar year to file those information returns electronically. The 10-or-more requirement does not apply separately to each type of form. For example, if you must file four Forms 1098 and six Forms 1099-A, you must e-file.
Oregon has been added to the list of states participating in the Combined Federal/State Filing (CS/SF) program. Missouri has been removed from the program.
Golden Parachute payments can no longer be filed through the FIRE System. This includes current year and prior year payments. Golden Parachute payments must be filed using the Information Returns Intake System (IRIS) or on paper. Payments filed through the FIRE System that need to be corrected must be filed on paper.
The FIRE system does not support the electronic filing of Form 1099-DA - Digital Asset Proceeds From Broker Transactions. If you are mandated to file this form electronically, you will need to use the IRIS system.
